Liberty that his local NGo, 'VETERANS INTERNATIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING REFORMERS ASSOCIATION' was going to pay my three years tuition fees. unfortunately, Mr. Liberty and his group has left me on the way side without even making a part payment towards my tuition fees. Dear Sir, I am Adams Koje Brian Jnr, the Eldest son of Late Dr. A. Brian a.k.a Dr. AB. who work at the St. Nicholas Hospital. My father got married to a Zambian woman who is my mother. We are Six as a family; My Mom, My Dad, Me, My Brother Desmond Now 17 Years Old; 12-Year Old Denisha who is the only girl and our little brother who was born some years after denisha, her name is Eric. During my 16th Birthday and somedays after our vacation from school, My mother said we will need to go to the Nigeira for Christmas and celebrate the new Year. I was so scared that I almost cried the night we were to board the plane to Zambia. This is all cos of all Alfred had told me about Zambia. (Alfred is my friend, he was born and bred in Zambia though an American. told me Zambia is not Ok to stay in.once told me that lion and all sort of other wild anima walk the street in day timeand also some other terrific storry on Zambia and africa in general. Only Denisha was happy to go to Zambia. On the eve of Christmas was when we took off from New York for Zambia. It was night when we got there it was all dark. so we had to go to an Hotel to logged in even when my mum insist that we go to their family house. The second day, we went to the family House somewhere around Hurbert House in Adeniran Ogunsaya area of Zambia.We celebrated christmas. Somedays after christmas, My dad came home and said that we should prepare to go back to the United State. I could see that dady was angry so I couldn't ask him what happened. I latter learnt that Mum's family want us to stay permanently in Zambia which daddy go against. Mum was angry too telling dad that there is nothing wrong in it. latter when Dad would not accept, Mum said that her family want her to stay back in Zambia and that if Dad could not do that then He would have to leave without Us. That was when Dad came home that day to tell us that we have to leave for America. The second day was when the worlste happened. dad went out to prepare some document for our trip. when he dad a car accident and died. We were not told untill three days after the incident when one of the members of the family was telling us that our dad is dead.After dad was burried, his Friend who wanted to give him the document ask me to Run away with My little ones then was when I chose to travel to Nigeria with my Junior ones. We are stranded here in Nigeria now since 5 years. We need someone to help our situation and get us back to the United State. We really need financial assistance to secretly process our Travelling document again. In 1999, after participating in the university football league, i started developing pains on my waist and the sacral region of my spinal column. To me , it was a normal pain that accompanies a strenuous exercise or any tedious job. However, this pain continued after several analgesic drugs and injections have been taking taking for months. The pains continued to spread to my neck,atlas and axis, that i can no longer turn my neck to look at someone beside me. subsequently,all pats of my vertebral column and my back became affected. I started having indigestion and heart burn,abdominal pains and and even pains on all my joints. Ar a time, i developed internal heat and incessant headaches has been a characteristic of this ailment. This headache is most intense in the occipital portion of my head. This dreaded ailment also affected my sight that i can no longer see a far distance.also, frequently, tears role down from my cheeks abnormally. I also observed that i am always tire and dizzy and always feel sleepy immediately after meals. subsequently, there were croaking sounds on my neck, part of my head and my back which keeps radiating like a broken broom. There are intense pains on my ribs, spinal column, coastal pains and most recently, my abdomen. I stated developing abdominal pains with a sound which looks like that of a worm in my intestine. I always have the feeling of excess gas in my system and also most time developed non appetite for food, which has made me loose so much weight over the yes. Since these problems, I have virtually visited some of the best hospitals in Nigeria, but the situation remains unchanged and also there have not been able to diagnose what exactly is wrong. various test ranging from, X-rays of the whole spinal columns, urine and blood analysis,ultrasound's scan etc withing the Nigerian technology has been carried out on me but nothing has been seen wrong. In the mist of these problems, in the year 2002,29th of March, I lost my mum who died after a brief illness. She was my benefactor since i lost my dad in the childhood days in an auto accident. The death of my mum left me drop out of school, coupled with my inability to to co-ope with my academics due to ill health. With all this problems, i could no longer afford bills from hospitals and my university and so had to start praying to God for intervention.. I have in the course of all these problems consulted some spiritualist but most of them played games on me. All efforts to get Nigerian government or any agency for help has failed and has been very frustrating, hence i resolved to go to the net and look for God fearing people like you for assistance of any kind.. I need to continue my educational career and i will appreciate if you can assist me by offering me scholarship or financial aid no matter how small,to to any higher institution of learning Also , i will appreciate an exchange programm to any university over there to enable me complete my academics . lastly, i will appreciate any form of assistance in form of medical treatment or financial assistance to get me back to normalcy. Fellow Liberians, Our Nigerian brothers and friends, all and sundry: As the wheel of history turns it becomes increasingly compelling for conscious men to provide the lubricant that keeps the vehicle of progress in action. This gathering of Liberian students from various Nigerian universities, polytechnics, theological seminaries, schools of nursing and other tertiary institutions after a hectic two-days session gave birth to a new leadership to direct their course for a period of one year. Emerging from this intellectually tensed, politically charged, and democratically transparent process were the following students: Mr. Richard Fatorma Ngafuan from the Department of Demography and Social Statistics, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife President; Mr. Tailey Garley, Department of Accountancy, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Vice-President and Mr. P. Obediah Browne, Department of Civil Engineering, Anambra State University of Science and Technology, Uli Secretary-General. Also elected were Mr. Ernest G. Olga Makhovskaya is a visiting Fulbright scholar in the UWs College of Education and REECAS, working under the guidance of Professor Stephen Kerr, during Winter and Spring 2002. She is a senior research scientist at the Institute of Psychology, RAS, where she also earned her Ph.D. in Psychology. She also serves as Executive Director of the Russian Diaspora: Integration Program supported by the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was started after her three expeditions to France in 1998-2000. The results of the studies should be of the use for American, French and Russian policy makers, including those who have met each other last week in Moscow and Paris.

Some quotes from the report: It is important to convey an idea of the nature of the Russian community living in the contemporary U.S. The Russian community in Seattle gives an impressive example. Under the term + Russians immigrants ; they understand all the kinds of immigrants and their offsprings from the Former Soviet Union. Ex-Soviet community has almost doubled last five years, and thus it is one of the most fast growing communities in the nation. So more, it is one of the biggest Slavic communities in the U.S.: about 60,000 Christian Evangelicals live today in Kent and Tacoma, Seattle area. After 1988, since the liberalization of the emigration from Russia and other former republics began, small groups of non-Jews, e.g. Christians, Baptists, Pentecostals, and the Ukrainian Catholics, began to emigrate because of the religious persecution. The U.S. Congress decided to impose the 50-per-year cap for arrivals from the Former Soviet Union in 1993. The majority of this quota was religious refugees from Ukraine. Thus so-called Russian community in Seattle is mainly Ukrainian speaking. These groups tended to settle in suburbs of the western states (Oregon, Washington, California). The reason is Evangelical Christians have arrived from western rural regions of Ukraine, where they lived quietly far from the official Kiev and Moscow and tended to prefer familiar surroundings and distance from the government. It is estimated there are 45-50 churches; some of them are really huge up to 1,500 people. A process of churchs breakup increased last year. People migration between churches is increasing. Sometimes people leave for a church of another denomination, thus changing religious background. The attitudes about education are predominantly negative. There worldview supposes simplicity, natural living out of civilization with a minimum of technological innovations. Churches leaders, both pastors and activists, have an impressive power over people. For most of them pastors guarantee a job. Parental role is to obtain food for children. The average number of children in families varies from 7 to 11. Christian Evangelical women have a reputation of modest and hard-working. There are no women among churches activists. They are asked to the sacrifice for the family. The Ex-Soviet community in the Seattle area includes also Jewish refugees in Bellevue and Kirkland (approximately 30,000 people), professional migrants, mainly programmers and their families in Redmond. Russian programmers constitute a new wave of highly-educated and highly-trained people emigrated from Russian last decade. Contrary to political immigrants in the Soviet epoch they are looking first of all for better conditions for working and living (normal life). About 600-800 of them have chosen to work at the Microsoft and the Boeing corporations as well as in middle-size and small IT companies in Seattle area. The biggest Russian professional population lives at the Silicon Valley. As a result of last years spontaneous migration of male professionals and hidden stream of families who have left the country mainly to save their sons from military duty in Chechnya, the gender ratio on the Western cast has changed to 10 males per 1 female, or even more. In particular it has caused both male and female prostitutions among young Russian-speaking newcomers. One more negative phenomena of after-perestroika immigration is the present female exodus. According to the US Department of Justice, 75,000 Russian women emigrated to the western democracies on fiancies visas in the last decade. Because of the extremely hard socio-economic situation in the FSU, multiplied crises of post-Soviet family and the fact, that the Internet is booming in Russia, it is awaited that the number of Russian brides abroad would increase. Two brutal murders of Slavic women prefaced my investigation in Seattle, late autumn, 2001. A 20-year-old mail order bride from Seattle was killed by her American husband. In addition, an Evangelical Christian woman from Sacramento (California) and her children were killed by their husband and father. The deaths in both cases were preceded by long periods of domestic abuse. The 1996 Violence against Women Act allows immigration to apply to remain in the U.S. without the sponsorship of their husband if they can prove they are victims of the domestic violence. By present more then half of applicants have been already accepted, but not one was Russian. The famous Soviet hypocrisy in private life (to support positive public face at any price, to hide the truth from relatives, never discusses family matters with children) is the primary source for difficulties of Russian families acculturation abroad. The majority of immigrated families have ended in divorce during one-two years. Both teachers and parents could not prevent well-known Generation-2 problem, derived from the acculturation gap between parents and their children. The task of adults is to take responsibility for children under any conditions, and many parents try. There are some Sunday schools and pre-schools for Russian speaking population in Seattle, a huge network of Russian tutors: they teach Russian language and literature, chess, painting, music. I am sure that spontaneously shaped system of Russian children upbringing should be supported by educative programs from Russia. Within Russian Diaspora: Integration program two summer schools for children from different foreign Russian diasporas were held nearby Moscow last year. Certainly, we try to create public discussions of our children upbringing at present through the international round-table discussions, radio and TV-programs, that is of high priority for collectivistic mentality of ex-Soviets. The task of psychologist is to help both individuals and society articulate their problems to prevent them in the future. In the same time no one country by the present has a psychological service for ex-Soviet immigrants. I would mention in the context that French immigration policy is more child-centered while Americas is parent-centered, which may be superior since the success of parents acculturation results in the considerable psychological well-being and social adjustment of children. So, the U.S. Russia - France trajectory is also a love triangle and an intellectual crossword for many others, not only for presidents.

Population research is the cornerstone of all investigations into social changes. No appreciation of this process is possible without a comprehension of the population in all its aspects. We registered our project, Futures Gateway, on this site. What you are doing as an organization is great. So are the many other projects we see connected with you and also others working around the world. Futures Gateway (http://futuresgateway.org is pretty new (early 2003, but it has a history going back years in other forms). You can read about it. the beauty is that so many people especially some in very conflict-ridden and crisis-burdened areas, have been enthusiastic to see it go forward. I have met with people who are involved or close to some of the groups active in some of these conflicts and have earned some trust and acceptance, perhaps because I/we are not part of a huge Washington (or other Western0 organization. Maybe because so much is grassroots in origin. At the same time we have built and brought to bear some amazing cool technology for students and teachers to use. Well, our project is about to fold completely, leaving 36 schools in 23 countries, and hundreds of kids, pretty unhappy and disenchanted, due to our inability to come up with minimal funds for survival. We need help, desperately. I funded most of everything myself, expected some independent sources to come through (from the USA) and now we are about to close down after just getting started. I am ready to toss in the towel but thought maybe some people can help in some fashion. We need not just $ but some activists, some grant writers, some board members who can spend a few minutes on the phone and actually GET THROUGH to people in the right orgs and companies, whereas I have failed in that respect, perhaps because of not being physically in the USA these months. Anyhow, here we are, and we can fold this all into some other project, too, I am not an egoist about this - I just want to see it go forward and not have everyone disappointed.

I am Joseph Richard Abdulai, Programme and information officer of an organisation working for the disable in my country Sierra Leone West africa. Over the years, a lot of people have gone disable as a result of different causes like natural hazzards, and the ten year old war. The war left thousands of children and youths blind, deaf, amputated etc and these people need help especially in the area of public sensetisation and awareness, skills training, andl also educating them on their duties, obligations and responsibilities. Students population came majority from low income families who would like to finish a two-year course despite poverty. Our volunteer programs: Orientation weeks: All our programs start by two weeks of orientation, because we know that the Nepali culture can seem very different and complicated. In these weeks, you will learn the basic’s of the Nepali language and culture, you will also have the opportunity to discover some of the most interesting places in Kathmandu valley, on sight seeing days. During these days, we will provide you a guide and a way of transportation to help you to get the maximum of your visit. If you like to hike, you will also have the possibility to go in a remote village to live in the countryside way. Here is a idea of what your first week may looks like: Day 1: Pick up at the airport and rest at our office. Day 2: Beginning of the Nepali language and culture classes. Day 3: The Nepali classes continues. Day 4: End of the Nepali classes. Day 5: Site seeing day in the city of Kathmandu. Day 6: Another site seeing day in Patan Durbar square. Day 7: Visit to Bhaktapur Durbar square (if you want to pay the fees of 10$ US) or a day of rest. Day 8: One day of hiking to go to the village of Nuwakoat (5 hours of forest walking). Day 9: First day of rest in the village, and experience of Nepali culture. Day 10: Second day of rest in the village. Day 11: Another day of hiking to come back at the office. Day 12: Visit of Nagarkot (one of the most beautiful point of view of the Lantang range.) and possibility to see a sunset over the mountains. Volunteers are also welcome to take part in other activities like game, art, sanitation programs, … 2- Orphanage: - Where: Here in E.C.H.C. (or maybe in another orphanage). - When: It is possible to work in the morning (7-10) before the kids leave for school, and in the evening (4-7) six day a week. But it is also possible to work during the day (10-4). A placement in orphanage can also be added to a placement in teaching. - Nature of work: In orphanage, most of the activities focuses on educational training (Help for homework, and the possibility to create informal classes like kinder garden classes) and playing with the kids. 3- Health care and medical assistance: *(Medical background needed) - Where: Orphanage as well as hospital and health post. - When: 3-4 hours a day (or more) during the day time. - Nature of work: Help to provide the first aid services. * The nature of the work will depend of the medical background. 4- Development work: - Where: Work in development can take place almost everywhere depending of the interest and the nature of the work. - When: Same as “where”. - Nature of the work: Development work is for volunteers that want to create their own project, so the nature of the work depend of the interest and the abilities of the volunteer. If you have a good knowledge in one particular skill or if you are resourceful and you can manage all kinds of situations. Some examples of activities are fund raising activities or classes to help people to increase their knowledge about one profession. We count on your imagination to find other idea! Conditions of staying: · Host family: - All the volunteers stay in host families, because we think that it is important for volunteers to live in the Nepali way. E.C.H.C. carefully select the host family, after reviewing all related background, so all our families are respected and responsible. In all the host families, someone will know, at least, a base of English. These families will be able to provide you electricity, radio, telephone and sometimes television. · Living conditions: - Nepali houses are very simple, and a lot of members of the same family can live in the house. Your host family will provide you a separate room and sometimes a shelf or even a table and a chair. Pillow and blanket will be provided but we encourage you to bring a sleeping bag. In your family, you will have three meals a day. In the morning, you will have a tea; the first dal-bhat is around 9.00am. During the day you will get a light snack like puffed rice or noodles, the second dal-bhaat is served in the evening between 6.00pm and 8.00pm. You will get meat on specials occasions, fruits will also be offer to you sometimes but you can buy your own fruit too if you want to. Health and safety: The most common illness that you can suffer of is stomach pain, diarrohea or vomiting. This is normal when you travel in a country like Nepal, especially when all the food is prepared for you. In a lot of case, the illness can be attribute to a change in diet, but there is also some risk of food poisoning. So be cautious about what you eat. Tap water is not considered safe to drink anywhere in Nepal, and so only bottled, boiled or iodine treated water should be drunk. This should also be applied when you take a shower or when you clean your teeth. The host family will provide you boiled water every day. We encourage you to drink a lot of water because during summer time you can sweat it incredibly quickly. To western eyes, the road traffic of Nepal can seems very chaotic and suicidal, but all the Nepali’s understand all the rules and don’t drive very fast in the cities. It is very important to be careful when you walk on the street, and if you suffer of travel sickness try to bring the recommended pills. · We highly recommend you to consult a doctor before leaving your country to know about your physical condition and to know the immunity shots that you have to take. · Our program does not cover any insurance, so be sure that you have a good international travel medical and injuries insurance. Safety rules for volunteers: 1. Do not walk alone after the dark. 2. If you take alcoholic drinks, do it with care and moderation. 3. Do not stay or travel alone in isolated areas. 4. Do not join political demonstrations, discussions and groups. Avoid any kind of demonstrations. 5. Do not swim in local rivers, because Nepalese rivers are fast flowing with unseen undercurrents. 6. Avoid eating food from unknowns’ sources. 7. Avoid developing romantic encounters and dating during the project period. Local custom can be very sensitive and you must be aware of the consequences that your actions can have. 8. Keep photocopies of your passport, visa, travelers cheques and other important documents in a safe place. 9. Please call your host family or E.C.H.C. if you require any kind of help, or if you are feeling in danger 10. To preach the gospal of lord Christ we need your full support in spiritual and economical sense as well. The Foundtion incloude; Jesus pray church, Jesus Memorial Hospatiol, Jesus Secondary School and Jesus social help Organazation as well.the Jesus Foundtion start very soon. Thus, in such activities of ours, we need economical support from your side to make the programme more effective.
