An association of foundations established in 1992. Provides information including a directory of NGOs, an NGO database, and publications, such as a handbook for Bulgarian NGOs. Servicesinclude management training and legal advice. Cooperates with efforts to develop a favorable legal and fiscal environment for NGOs.
A resource center for NGOs and private voluntary organizations providing information, training and coordinating third sector projects. Provides a database & directory of NGOs, publishes a newsletter (in Czech) for NGOs, is publishing a compendium of funding sources for its library of funding and other resources. Offers training in management and training of trainers, consulting services in financial and legal advice. Projects include legislative lobbying initiatives, international volunteer matching network and several national and international NGO networks.
ESTONIA:
Provides information, including a directory of NGOs and a resources library, produces publications about NGO activity and support services for NGOs such as legal advice.
HUNGARY:
Provides technical assistance & training for NGOs. Information resources include a database of 7000 foundations and 4000 associations, and a CD-Rom database on Hungarian legislation. Working to create a national network of NGO information/resource centers. Cooperates with the European Foundation Centre's Orpheus Project, Civicus, Soros database network, and Johns Hopkins NGO Trainer project.
Established in 1989 and currently comprised of 1300 member foundations. Publishes a Foundation Directory (in its 3rd edition). Cooperates with the European Foundation Centre's Orpheus Project, United Way International, Fondation de France, Spanish Foundation Centro, the Soros network, and PHARE.
POLAND:
Established in 1993 and supported by the PHARE Civic Dialogue Programme Cooperation Fund, BORDO serves as a national information and resource center for NGOs, providing legal, advisory and referral services. It distributes the KLON and JAWOR Directories of NGOs in Poland and makes both databases accessible to the public. It publishes an information bulletin for NGOs, a review of publications of interest to NGOs, an information resource survey of all NGO bulletins and newsletters and a Directory of grants, funds and program assistance for Polish NGOs - all of these are a part of BORDO's developing resource library. Information is available in Polish and English; all BORDO services are free of charge. BORDO cooperates with the European Foundation Centre's Orpheus Programme and the Civil Society Development Project.
provides services to strengthen the capacity of NGOs primarily in the social sector and works to improve the coordination of their activities and the flow of information and cooperation between the public and private sectors. It provides individualized technical assistance and training sessions on project development, proposal writing, management and legal requirements. Working with the KLON and JAWOR databases of NGOs in Poland, BORIS publishes a Guide to NGOs in Warsaw. BORIS promotes inter-NGO networking and information exchange. Provides NGOs with an information and networking center of resource people, books, periodicals and media materials to serve as guides on the organization, management and support of NGOs in the Warsaw area and surrounding voivods. Its staff are mostly bilingual and some materials available in English as well as Polish. BORIS cooperates with the Social Assistance Information Newsletter, "GIPS."
BORIS is one of five Regional Service Offices in Poland which serve primarily to provide technical support for NGOs applying to or participating in PHARE's 022 Programme.
ROMANIA:
Provides information and coordination for NGOs throughout Romania. The IFES/Vocea Civica database provides a listing of NGOs active in building democracy throughout the country. It organizes an annual NGO conference. IFES contributes a weekly newsletter with information about events and issues of concern to Romanian NGOs. Information is available in Romanian and English, with requests handled on an individual basis.
Provides information to Romanian and British NGOs in social services and health activities and promotes their cooperation. Provides a database information and a newsletter. Information available in Romanian and English.
Part of the Soros Foundation network which also serves as an NGO information center, providing access to a Directory of Romanian NGOs and NGO database. They plan to develop an NGO resource center. Other Office locations in Cluj-Napoca, Iasi and Timisoara.
SLOVAKIA:
NGO information services include a database of NGOs and nonprofit voluntary organizations in Slovakia and a directory of foundations and other organizations in both Slovak and English; as well as general information services for both local NGOs & international
organizations. Publishes a monthly newsletter, "Nonprofit." Coordinates an electronic network for NGOs in Eastern Central Europe,
