Eastern Europe Regional NGO Networking Project
The National Forum Foundation has recently announced a new three-
year project to strengthen collaborative linkages among NGOs (non-
governmental organizations ) in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE)
working on public policy issues in four sectors: democracy,
economic growth, the environment, and social safety nets.
Organizations from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are eligible to
participate directly, but groups in the NIS will also be able to
benefit from some of the project's programs.
The project will include:
* more than 250 intra-regional and intra-country internships
for NGO staff for training and project coordination with
other organizations in the region;
* the development of an electronic information network for the
region's public-policy-oriented NGOs that will include an
NGO project directory;
* a bi-monthly NGO networking newsletter;
* an annual 3-day conference for the CEE NGO community.
The project is funded by a grant from the U.S. Agency for
International Development as part of USAID's Democracy Network
Project.
CCSI would be happy to send, via e-mail, a 7,000 byte file which
describes the project in more detail. You can also contact Peter

Subject: Veterans?
Greetings.
I received a request today from the Chita chapter of Veterans of
Afganistan. They are interested in contacting a Vietnam veterans
organization in the US - i.e. one that is lobbying for veteran's
rights, for compensation etc.
Does anyone have any information on file about veteran groups working
in Russia?
Thanks.
Cheers, Mary

Classroom-to-Classroom
The American Federation of Teacher's Classroom-to-Classroom
program helps establish penpal relationships between schools in
the U.S. and around the world. The program has linked more than
600 schools since it was established a couple of years ago. The
counterpart countries offered in the program include Lithuania,
Russia, and Ukraine, although AFT will try to make contacts for
countries not included in its regular program.
We will e-mail, upon request, a 3,500 byte file which describes
the program in more detail and includes an application form.
