Research Opportunities in the NIS
The ACTR/ACCELS Research Scholar Program provides
fellowship support to graduate students and faculty to
conduct research in the countries of the New Independent
States. Contemporary research topics concerning the
transition and post-Soviet era will be given special
consideration, as one of the goals of the program is to
develop and sustain a cadre of U.S. graduate student and
faculty experts on the countries of the NIS that can be a
resource for U.S. policy makers
ACTR/ACCELS also welcomes applications from scholars of
less commonly taught languages and the non-Russian
studies fields for the Combined Research & Training Program
(CRT). The CRT Program is designed for graduate students
who have attained intermediate levels of proficiency in
non-Russian languages to undertake research in-country
while receiving individualized language training.
ACTR/ACCELS Research Scholar Program is open to
qualified U.S. citizen graduate students, post-doctoral
scholars, and faculty members in the social sciences and
humanities who have the necessary background for
conducting research in the NIS. Funding for the Research
Scholar Program is provided by the U.S. Information Agency,
Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Funding for the
Combined Research and Training Program is provided by the
U.S. Department of State, Program for Research and
Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of
the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII).
