Subject: Amur River excursion

Hello fellow environmental people,

I heard about my list through my roommate, Eric Stonebraker,
who is conducting a month-long camping trip along the Amur
River and in Kamchatka.
I am also a Peace Corps volunteer working with ecology.
One of my tasks is working with the Russian Academy of Sciences
Institute of Water and Ecological Problems. I am working with
a geography professor doing research on the environmental
condition of the Amur River, and subsequently comparing it
to the condition and protection of the Columbia River in
Oregon.
Professor Makhinov would like to invite two or three Americans
for an excursion down the Amur River, to take place next
summer. I am not entirely certain when it would take place,
but the Russian Academy of Sciences would foot the bill of
cost of living. I'm also not sure how long it is supposed to
last.
I think that this invitation is open mostly to graduate stu-
dents and professors. If anyone is interested, please write
me back at me back at [email protected]. Unfortunately, I don't have
more information now, but I'd like to see what kind of interest
there is.
