PROJECT HARMONY ANNOUNCES ITS 1996
FIRE PREVENTION EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Project Harmony, a non-profit, educational exchange organization, will be
holding its 1996 FIRE PREVENTION EXCHANGE PROGRAM in Karelia/Russia in
August, 1996. The American delegation will travel to Petrozavodsk in the
Karelian Republic of Russia (Phase I of the exchange) and work with the
Karelian Ministry of Domestic Affairs and Fire Departments in the cities of
Petrozavodsk, Sortavala, and Kondopoga. The itinerary will include a
combination of sightseeing/cultural events and a series of professional
training sessions conducted jointly by American and Russian firemen and
fire prevention officials.
The purpose of the FIRE PREVENTION EXCHANGE PROGRAM is to provide an
educational forum for both Russian and American participants where learning
and actual hands-on training can take place. This year's trip follows the
success of our 1995 exchange with the Petrozavodsk Fire Department and will
certainly provide an intense, interactive experience that will be
professionally exciting, culturally unique and physically exhausting. It
will demand an incredible amount of energy, endurance and resourcefulness.
Phase II of the exchange will take place in October, 1996 when a delegation
of 20 Russian firemen and fire officials will travel to the United States
for a two week educational and cultural program. This hosting program will
include one-on-one matching in municipal fire departments, fire academies
and visits to manufacturers of fire equipment. This program will expose
the Russians to American firefighting at the local and state levels.
The participant fee is $1975 per person which includes round trip airfare
from NYC/JFK Airport to St. Petersburg, visa costs and all program costs in
Russia (tickets to special museums or concerts may be extra). Optional
health and accident insurance can be purchased for $35.00 per person for
the duration of the trip in Russia. A passport is needed immediately.
