Internet Fellowships in the NIS
The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) is presently
reviewing Internet Fellowship candidates for: Minsk, Belarus;
Ekaterinburg Russia; and Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Applications may be
submitted up to April 30, 1996.
This is professional fellowship opportunity to expand computer
network access for alumni of US government-sponsored academic
exchange programs throughout the NIS, under the auspices of the US-
Eurasia Internet Access and Training Program. The program is
administered by IREX and sponsored by the US Information Agency,
Carnegie Corporation of New York, and O'Reilly & Associates, Inc.
Internet Fellowship Responsibilities
- To recruit and train local networking trainers.
- To promote the use of computer networks among alumni of US
government-sponsored exchange programs, with a special emphasis
on noncommercial civic groups, schools, libraries, and individual
institutes in the humanities and social sciences.
- To create, manage, and promote public access e-mail stations.
- To cooperate with local and international organizations in
the establishment of Internet host sites.
Requirements:
- US citizenship.
- Previous living and/or working experience in the NIS.
- Professional Russian-language skills.
- Two years Internet training/support/development experience.
- Exceptional managerial and supervisory abilities.
- A 12-month commitment
Fellowship terms:
IREX will provide international travel costs, medical evacuation
insurance, stipend, and honorarium. Placements on a rolling
basis beginning June, 1996.
