Long-Term Legal Advisor - Republic of Armenia

The Center for Institutional Reform and the Informal Sector
(IRIS), affiliated with the Department of Economics at the Uni-
versity of Maryland, is seeking an individual to serve as a Long-
Term Legal Advisor to the Republic of Armenia.
The Advisor will provide expert technical assistance to the
Ministry of Economy and others in drafting and implementation of
commercial law portions of the new Armenian civil code and sup-
plemental laws, including collateral law, business formation and
operations, company law, contract enforcement and dispute resolu-
tion, and property rights.
The position requires:
* thorough expertise and at least five years' highly responsible
legal experience in general commercial law, commercial transac-
tions, secured transactions, and business/corporate law;
* thorough knowledge of the new Russian civil code and, prefer-
ably, experience with its development
In addition, fluency in Russian and/or Armenian, experience in
long-term technical assistance projects (especially in NIS coun-
tries and especially with USAID), and knowledge of an consulting
experience in Armenia are highly desirable.
The position in Yerevan is available immediately. Salary is based
on past compensation history; benefits include overseas salary
and housing allowances.
