The European Institute for the Media seeks external experts

The European Institute for the Media regularly conducts media monitoring
missions on behalf of the European Unions Tacis Democracy Programme.

These missions usually take place prior to elections in countries of the
Former Soviet Union and Central and Eastern Europe. The aim is to describe
the recent media developments in the country and assess the fairness of
the media coverage of the elections.

We are interested in expanding our pool of external experts who can act as
independent media monitors during election. The EIM is therefore looking
for people with a knowledge of the political or media situation in one or
more countries of the Former Soviet Union and Central and Eastern Europe
(especially Central Asia and Eastern Europe), and who would be interested
in working with the EIM on an ad hoc basis.

Candidates should speak the local language and English and should have a
feel for international politics and universally accepted norms of election
campaign coverage. Monitors are required to write a report regarding their
findings after the mission and should therefore have good writing skills.

During the missions all costs made by the monitors are reimbursed and a
fee of 100 ECU per day is paid.

Please contact Ms Ljudmila von Berg in case you would like your name to be
added to our database of ad hoc external experts.
