1996 CURRICULUM CONSULTANTS EXCHANGE PROGRAM
The Government of the United States of America is pleased to
announce the 1996 Curriculum Consultants Exchange Program for
qualified citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia,
Kazakstan, Kyrg yzstan, Moldova, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and
Uzbekistan. The Program is funded and supervised by the United
States Information Agency and administered by the International
Research & Exchanges Board. It provides short-term opportunities to
consult with US host institutions to develop substantive plans for
on-going curricula development in educational institutions of the US
and NIS.
Participants of the Curriculum Consultants Exchange Program will
utilize their skills in US classrooms by means of hands-on
activities, including participation in team-teaching exercises and
classroo m discussions. It is expected that the curricula and
teaching methodologies that are developed as a result of this
program will be transferable to participants' host institutions upon
completion of the actual grant. Participants will therefore
concentrate on the longer-term sustainability of their experience as
a primary project element.
A total of fifteen finalists will be selected and placed at
accredited US universities for approximately three to six months.
Eligible applicants are post-secondary educators or advanced
graduate st udents currently teaching in one of the academic fields
of the social sciences and humanities. Applicants must demonstrate
the need to access current materials in the field of curricula
development, as well as the ability to serve as a future resource for
others at their home institutions. Individuals who apply must be
proficient in written and spoken English, be able to receive and
maintain a US visa, and must not have spent four or more consecutive
months outside the participating countries since June 1995.
Successful applicants should be prepared to begin consulting
programs in early spring, 1996.
The Curriculum Consultants Exchange Program provides round-trip
travel from participants' home cities in the NIS to the US host
institution, medical insurance, a monthly stipend for housing and
livin g expenses, a limited allowance for teaching materials and a
small professional development allowance. The Curriculum
Consultants Exchange Program requires that US host institutions
allow participan ts to observe up to two graduate level courses in
the appropriate field of study and provides basic training in and
access to electronic mail.
Applications for the Curriculum Consultants Exchange Program can be
obtained from and submitted to IREX offices in the NIS (Almaty,
