Freedom House Seeks
Human Rights, Forensics and Legal Experts
to Serve as Volunteer Trainers in NIS
Freedom House seeks leading experts in human rights
documentation, criminal investigation, and rules of evidence
in forensic science or law to participate in the development
and implementation of a new program to help human rights
activists in the NIS respond quickly to human rights crises.
Freedom House is working with the Sakharov Center in Moscow
to create a rapid response facility that will enable NGOs
from throughout the NIS to work together to undertake field
investigations, coordinate responses and implement
solutions. The Sakharov Center will serve as launch points
for the rapid response unit, providing activists with video
cameras, tape recorders, laptop computers, etc. Rapid
response team members, in conjunction with Freedom House and
the Sakharov Center, will monitor events throughout the NIS
and determine whether field investigations are required..
For the first year Freedom House will provide logistical and
financial support.
Volunteer program advisors, which Freedom House is now
seeking, will help develop a methodology and curriculum and
serve as trainers for the rapid response teams. Advisors
will be expected to spend two weeks in the NIS as part of
the training program. Freedom House will be able to cover
air fare and expenses.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have an advanced degree in law, forensic
science, or social sciences and at least 7 years experience
in a related field. Preference will be given to those with
at least 3 years field experience in the U.S. or abroad.
Knowledge of Russian, Ukrainian, or another NIS language is
preferred, but not required.
Deadline: Applications must be received by December 29,
1996.
