Two Arts Grants from CEC International

                  ArtsLink Collaborative Projects
                               and
                      ArtsLink Residencies

ArtsLink Collaborative Projects

SYNOPSIS: Support is provided for collaborative projects which allow U.S.
artists to undertake projects in Central and Eastern Europe with their
overseas colleagues. Grants for individuals and groups will generally
range from $2,500 to $6,000 depending on a project budget. Grants will
seldom cover the applicant's total international project expenses.

DEADLINES: 03-17-1997

OBJECTIVES:

The sponsor provides support for collaborative projects which allow U.S.
artists to undertake projects in Central and Eastern Europe with their
overseas colleagues. Projects should offer demonstrable benefits to
participants from both countries. Support is provided to U.S. artists to:
pursue artistic collaborations that will enrich their work; create new
work that draws inspiration from interaction with artists in the country
visited; establish mutually beneficial exchange of ideas and expertise;
and deepen their understanding of a particular artistic expression that is
related to their own work.

Arts disciplines include: architecture and design; dance;
literature; media; music; theater; traditional arts; visual art
(including photography, painting, and applied art); and
multidisciplinary projects.

RESTRICTIONS: Eligible applicants are contemporary and traditional
creative artists working in the performing, design, media, literary, and
visual arts who intend to undertake projects in Central and Eastern
Europe. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Curators,
scholars, presenters, administrators, critics, students, student
ensembles, and recreational amateur groups are not eligible to apply.

Grants for individuals and groups will generally range from $2,500
to $6,000 depending on a project budget. Grants
will seldom cover the applicant's total international project
expenses. The selection process is extremely competitive.
Grants are not intended simply to tour artworks from the U.S. and
Central and Eastern Europe or to import existing
work to new sites. The sponsor does not support participation in
arts festivals abroad. Projects focusing solely on
research, the production of an audio-recording, or film post-
production are not eligible.

Application forms and guidelines are available. Artists who have
specific projects in mind but lack contacts in Central
and Eastern Europe may consult with CEC for regional resources
before applying. (kal)

ArtsLink Residencies

SYNOPSIS: Support is provided to host an ArtsLink fellow, either an artist
or arts manager from Central and Eastern Europe, for a five-week
residency. Applicants are U.S. nonprofit cultural organizations,
educational organizations and units of city, county, tribal or State
government working in the performing, design, media, literary, and visual
arts. Grant amounts will range from $4,000 to $5,000.

DEADLINES: 06-09-1997

OBJECTIVES:

The sponsor provides support to host an ArtsLink fellow, either an artist
or arts manager from Central and Eastern Europe, for a five- week
residency. The opportunity to host artists or arts managers from other
countries can inspire new work and lead to future artistic collaborations.
Organizations should design residences that will provide the fellow with
hands-on experience that is relevant to the visitor's professional goals.
Residences should also incorporate the visiting professional into the host
organization's activities and provide interaction with local artists or
organizations in the community. Fellows are professional artists and arts
managers that have been selected by a review panel comprised of U.S. arts
professionals.

Arts disciplines include: architecture and design; dance;
literature; media; music; theater; traditional arts; visual art
(including photography, painting, and applied art); and
multidisciplinary projects.

RESTRICTIONS:

Eligible applicants are U.S. nonprofit cultural organizations, educational
organizations and units of city, county, tribal or State government
working in the performing, design, media, literary, and visual arts.
Student and recreational amateur groups are not eligible to apply.

Grants provide funding to cover the living, working and materials costs
for the five-week residency, as well as modest administrative expenses for
the host organizations. Grant amounts will generally range from $4,000 to
$5,000. Host organizations should supplement the grant with in-kind
support or secure matching funds to cover full residency costs. The
residency period will be November 4 through December 9, 1996.

Application forms and guidelines are available. Organizations that intend
to apply should contact the sponsor's staff in advance of submitting their
applications. A listing or artists and arts managers who have seen
selected to be ArtsLink fellows will be available in early April. (kal)
