Subject: Launch of New UNDP Web Pages

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - Regional Bureau for
Europe and the CIS (RBEC) is pleased to announce the launch of its new
web site on the Internet. The entire site has been redesigned to
provide easy access to information on the region, including:

1. National Human Development Reports - comprehensive reports
detailing the status of human development in each country. They
describe human development trends and cover areas such as Population,
Economic Transition, Quality of Life, Governance and Participation,
Environmental Issues and Human Development Indicators.

2. Compendium of programmes and activities undertaken by the major
donors in the fields of democracy, human rights, governance and
participation.

3. News and information on UNDP's own programme activities.

4. Publications and papers produced by RBEC, including the new 1996
Project Achievement Reports.

The RBEC home page can be found at: http://www.undp.org/undp/rbec/

UNDP is the world's largest multilateral source of grant funding for
development cooperation. It assists countries in their efforts to
achieve sustainable human development through its major themes of
poverty elimination, environmental regeneration, job creation and the
advancement of women. In support of these goals, it is frequently
asked to assist in promoting sound governance and market development.
