The attached announcement regarding a new internet list arrived
today from the IIE Moscow office. I have just joined the list
today, so I cannot provide any information about the messages
that will be posted to the list. Nevertheless, I wanted to bring
the list to the attention of our members.

New Internet List: HIGHER EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENTS IN NIS
*****************************************************************
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is pleased to
announce a new electronic dissemination network on higher educa-
tional developments and advising issues in the Newly Independent
States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union.
The discussion list is called "Higher Educational Developments in
Russia and in the NIS" and is sponsored by the TOEFL Policy
Council of the Educational Testing Service (ETS). It is designed
to assist U.S. campus personnel who deal with students from
Russia and other former Soviet republics receive useful informa-
tion from NIS educational advisers.
There are currently about 60 American Educational Information
Centers (EICs) throughout NIS which provide assistance to stud-
ents in applying to an American institutions of higher learning
in the U.S.

The purposes of the listserv are to:
* provide the most up-dated information on changes in educational
systems in the NIS
* name and evaluate new educational institutions
* set up a network between NIS educational advisers and U.S.
university personnel
* provide a forum for discussion among listserv users
