                                  "BALLERINA"
Baltic Sea Region On-line Environmental Information Resource
                         http://www.baltic-region.net/

Baltic Sea Region On-line Environmental Information Resource Web site was
launched today in Stockholm Sweden.

BALLERINA is designed as a guide to a broad spectrum of information
resources and ways to communicate on environmental and natural resource
issues and sustainable development issues in the Baltic Sea Region. The
target audience is the 'environmentally concerned' audience in the Baltic
Sea Region - and elsewhere - ranging from students in high schools, to the
professional environmental management community and scientists.

The new Web site has sections which provide information on the Baltic Sea
and the countries in the region including environmental reports, a
calendar on conferences and meetings of interest in the Baltic Region
context, information on the Baltic 21 project, and links to advanced
science programs and networks working in the region.

The site also announces the first annual BALLERINA conference to be held
in Riga, Latvia this May. The conference will include the presentation
and discussion of the BALLERINA Web site, presentation of other Internet
activities of relevance to the Baltic Sea Region, and the development of a
draft program for capacity building and institutional strengthening in the
CEE and NIS countries of the region.
