                    Almaty, Kazakhstan

The Information and Research Center for Civic Education was
established in November 1996 in Almaty by a group of educators and
researchers as a non-profit organization. The Center seeks to
facilitate the democratization of the educational system of
Kazakhstan by creating and implementing curricula on civic
education. The Center will work with teachers and students from
pre-school to the university level.

The Center hopes to:

* conduct research in the field of civic education

* publish educational materials

* organize seminars, conferences, and training workshops

* establish contact with international educational institutions
   and non-governmental organizations

* obtain and disseminate civic education print materials

The Center is especially interested in establishing contacts with
foreign civic education organizations and in finding potential
sources of funding for its projects.
