Georgetown University's PEW ECONOMIC FREEDOM FELLOWS PROGRAM is a
five month program combining intensive academic training, struc-
tured practicums, and first-hand observation of American govern-
ment and industry for twenty emerging economic policy-makers from
countries undergoing rapid democratization and transformation to
market-based systems.
* Program Description
-----------------------------------------------------------------
THE PEW ECONOMIC FREEDOM FELLOWS PROGRAM is a five month program
combining intensive academic training, structured practicums, and
first-hand observation of American government and industry for
twenty emerging economic policy-makers from countries undergoing
rapid democratization and transformation to market-based systems.
Combining The Pew Charitable Trusts' commitment to seeking educa-
tional innovation as a means of promoting political and economic
freedom with the School of Foreign Service's reputation for
excellence in leadership education, the Pew Economic Freedom
Fellows Program aims to:
* inform economic policy-makers in newly emerging democracies how
market-oriented systems work in practical terms;
* sharpen skills in economic policy analysis, negotiations with
multinational corporations, the financial management of enter-
prises, and computer application;
* develop a network among these leaders, linking them to the
Economics Department and School of Foreign Service faculty and
policy-makers worldwide..
-----------------------------------------------------------------
* Eligibility
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The program is specifically designed for qualified women and men
who have critical roles in their countries' economic affairs.
Applicants to the program often hold posts such as: deputy min-
isters; heads of departments in key governmental ministries or
central financial institutions related to economic affairs; vice
presidents or principals in newly created corporations, coopera-
tives or business ventures; or special assistants in economic
affairs to presidents of executive or legislative bodies, at the
local, as well as national, level. A major criterion is that the
candidate appears destined for a leadership role, as his or her
country moves toward a free market economy. All applications must
be endorsed by the ministry, department or enterprise in which
the candidate is engaged.

Program, family members are not permitted to reside with Fellows

former Soviet Union is August 1.
