Moscow School of Human Rights
The MSHR is a non-government/non-commercial organization which
trains teachers and publishes books on how to teach about human rights.
MSHR was founded in 1995 with a grant form the Soros Foundation and the
Ministry of Education in Russia. It has been given the status of "a
federal experimental laboratory" by the Ministry of Education in Russia.
MSHR has trained more than 6000 teachers. Teachers are trained to
teach human rights, democracy, political culture, and legal issues. Their
audience includes not only schoolteachers but university professors,
parents, NGO representatives, public health administrators, state
employees, and juridicial bodies.
MSHR books cover topics such as modern law, the history of the
Russian human rights movements, history of religion, and the Constitution
of Russia, as well as political, legal, and moral issues in a democratic
society. Most books offer practical advice for methods of teaching and
emphasize respect for law and ideological diversity. Titles include "Know
Your Rights", "Concept and Programme of the Subject 'Civil Education'",
"Introduction to Legal Studies: Manual for Schoolchildren", and "Human
Rights: Manual for Teachers".
