European Law Initiative (CEELI). As you may know, CEELI is a public
service project of the American Bar Association that supports the legal
reform process in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union
through the work of long-term legal specialists stationed abroad.

Be a Part of History in the Making. . .

The Central and East European Law Initiative (CEELI), a public service
project of the American Bar Association, is currently seeking
experienced attorneys for the following positions:

CEELI participants receive a generous support package to cover all
housing, transportation, and general living expenses. To request an

Banking Legal Specialists to assist the Bulgarian and Moldovan
government with bank privatization and regulation and coordinate other
technical assistance in the banking area at the request of the U.S.
Agency for International Development for three to six months beginning
as soon as possible.

Criminal Law Liaisons for Lithuania, Romania, and Russia to assist in
stemming the growing tide of organized crime and corruption by: a)
coordinating criminal law related activities in the host country; b)
identifying, developing, and implementing technical legal assistance
projects in partnership with the host country's legal community and
government representatives; and c) organizing interactive training
workshops for prosecutors, judges, and defense attorneys on topics such
as the drafting and implementation of modern criminal justice
legislation, supervision of investigations, individual rights, and jury
trial procedures for one year beginning Spring 1997.

Collateral Law Legal Specialist for Latvia to a) assist a local Latvian
Non Governmental Organization ensure the completion of a draft
collateral law; b) assist a yet to be identified contractor to provide
training for users of the new collateral law including judges,
attorneys, policymakers, bankers, and business people; c) supervise the
production of legal commentaries on the new law; and d) assist in
increasing public awareness of the new law through print and television
media for one year beginning as soon as possible.

Commercial Law Liaisons for Bulgaria and Albania to promote a stable
transition to free-market economies by: a) coordinating commercial law
related activities in the host country; b) identifying, developing, and
implementing technical legal assistance projects in partnership with the
host country's legal community and government representatives; c)
organizing interactive training workshops on topics such as
international business joint ventures, bankruptcy, and intellectual
property; and d) managing legal reform programs focusing on continuing
legal education, law practice management, and bar development for one
year.

Rule of Law Liaisons for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan,
Macedonia, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan to: a) coordinate CEELI
rule of law related activities in the host country; b) identify,
develop, and implement technical legal assistance projects in
partnership with the host country's legal community and government
representatives; c) organize interactive training workshop on topics
such as creating an independent judiciary, drafting ethics codes,
revising administrative procedures, and developing judicial training
programs; and d) manage legal reform programs focusing on continuing
legal education, law practice management, and bar development for one
year.
