Multiple Assistance for Georgia
Multiple Assistance for Georgia (MAG) is a non-governmental
organization that was established in May of 1994 to provide
humanitarian assistance and to support the development of
Georgia's civil society. It has been very active in the health
sector, supporting programs in maternal and child health, AIDS
awareness and prevention, and the development of a local
pharmaceutical industry.
MAG has recently been selected to manage a project sponsored by
the International Organization for Migration that seeks to
strengthen the development and capacity of Georgian NGOs which
work on migration issues. One of the goals of the project is to
enable Georgian organizations active with migration issues to
become familiar with the models and practices of migration sector
NGOs in other countries. MAG is currently collecting literature
about migration issues for a library that it is currently
building.
MAG also intends to establish an NGO Resource Center in Tbilisi
that it hopes will help to popularize the concept of the "third
sector" in Georgia. The Center will provide training to local
NGOs, create and maintain a database of NGOs in Georgia, and
publish an information bulletin.
