RE: Opportunities for Training

The National Council is pleased to offer two new training opportunities
for teachers in the former Soviet Union, Baltic States, and central
Europe. Although graduates of the NCEE's Train the Trainers program
will receive preference, other qualified individuals may also apply.

The first activity is a workshop in economic education for the
elementary grades. It is offered for teams of educators, with each team
consisting of one NCEE Train the Trainers graduate and one classroom
teacher who teaches elementary-age students. The workshop will take
place May 24-28 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The working languages of the
workshop are English and Russian. The National Council will pay travel
and workshop expenses for participants. Deadline for submission of
applications is April 6, 1998.

The second activity is a workshop and study tour on evaluation in
economic education. It is offered for individuals who have begun to
address the question of how to evaluate economic education programs by
assessing economic learning. The program will take place June 21-July
1, 199 in Bloomington, Indiana and Washington, DC. The working language
is English. The National Council will pay travel and workshop expenses
for participants. Applications are due April 15, 1998.
