The Center for Citizen Initiatives (CCI)
Announces its participation in
The Presidential Management Training Initiative (PMTI)
for Russian Managers
PMTI was initiated by President Boris Yeltsin's, who appealed to the heads
of twenty nations, including President Clinton, to help him train a new
cadre of business managers to replace old-style Soviet management. He
asked that 35,000 young Russian managers be trained abroad in Western
companies. The US, Germany, UK, Canada, Italy, Japan, France and other
countries are now responding.
USIA is the US governmental agency handling the American response. USIA's
Community Connections business internship training program, the Dept of
Commerce's SABIT internship program, and CCI's Productivity Enhancement
Program (PEP) are the American organizations coordinating the internship
placements in US companies. Each of the three US organizations'
internships vary in length of stay in the US and terms of training focus.
CCI's internships are designed for young, English-speaking Russian managers
from small to large Russian enterprises. Training is provided by private
American companies parallel to Russian participants' own industries. Each
Russian manager shadows the management team of a successful US firm for a
month, during which time they concentrate on learning western-style
management, marketing and financial operations.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for American companies to play a role
in the future of Russia without ever leaving the workplace. Further,
training Russian managers provides insights into the rapidly evolving
Russian market for those who are watching it for future investment or
potential joint business partnerships. Finally, having an excited, eager
young Russian manager train in an American company provides a fresh dynamic
wherein staff moral increases as they realize they can also play a vital
role in international economic assistance and political stability.
CCI has trained over 1400 Russian managers in American firms over the past
seven years. Long term evaluations have demonstrated that the impact of
training even one Russian effects thousands of other Russian lives. The
collective impact of the training being carried out by SABIT, Community
Connections, and CCI is making a valuable investment in Russia's future
stability. History will show that this type of investment in economic
technical assistance was the best possible use of America's time and
financial resources.
All CCI management training is provided pro bono by American companies and
housing is donated by American volunteers, who often are affiliated with
the host company.
If you or someone you know would be interested in training or hosting a
young Russian manager for a month of "hands on" training, please contact:
