    Summer Schools in Law and Social Science, Soros Kyrgyzstan

Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan together with Higher Education Support Program
of an Open Society Institute - Budapest is organizing summer schools for
faculty members from the universities of Central Asia.

** Summer School on Human Rights and Law **

It will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on August 14-30, 1998. It is
designed for law schools faculty members and will be devoted to the study
of human rights aspects of law. Lecturers from Eastern Europe and Russia
are invited to teach at the summer school. Besides studying various topics
on human rights perspectives of the law (as well as legal aspects of human
rights) participants would develop a paper the best of which will be
published. Summer school will be held in Russian (translation into Russian
will be provided when lecturers from Eastern Europe will teach).

To be eligible, one must:
 - be citizen of one of Central Asian countries (Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan,
Uzbekistan, Tajikistan)
 - have a higher education in law
 - be under 40 years old
 - teach law subject at the university

The deadline for applications is June 10.
Application forms may be obtained at the local Soros Foundations.

** Summer School on Research Methods in Social Sciences **

This interdisciplinary school is organized by the International University
of Kyrgyzstan with financial support of the Soros Foundation-Kyrgystan and
Higher Education Support Program of an Open Society Institute - Budapest it
is intended for faculty members of social sciences and humanities and will
be held in Bishkek and Issik-Kul on July 19 - August 1, 1998. Lecturers
are invited from the US and Britain. Language of instruction is Russian
(translation from English)

For eligibility, one must:
 - be citizen of one of the Central Asian countries
 - teach subjects that are close to the theme of summer school
 - be under 40
