JOB DESCRIPTION
Project Harmony, a not-for-profit, professional educational exchange
organization seeks a Program Coordinator to work in Russia and Ukraine as
the on-site representative to organize and facilitate the Domestic Violence
Community Partnership Program, funded by the US Department of State. The
program will begin in the Summer 1998. Teams of American specialists in
the fields of law enforcement, health care, education, legal advocacy and
social services will be selected to train NIS organizations and
professionals in techniques used to combat domestic violence. Over the
course of the two years of this program, comprehensive community
initiatives will be established in Petrozavodsk and Volgograd, Russia, Lviv
and Odessa, Ukraine. This Domestic Violence Community Partnership Program
builds on close working partnerships with Ministries and Institutes of
Internal Affairs developed through Project Harmony's Law Enforcement
Exchange Programs in NIS communities. This program is a community-focused
initiative which will bring together the law enforcement community with
professionals and specialists from various fields to combat the problem of
domestic violence on many levels.
Responsibilities include:
* Assist US-based staff with all aspects of program planning,
organization and implementation in NIS communities
* Work closely with NIS partners to prepare the groundwork for
training programs to be run by American specialists. This includes working
to identify needs, develop training proposals and foster working
relationships between various constituencies in NIS communities
* Organize host family placements for US visitors with NIS hosts
* Provide on-site, bilingual translation for US trainers in either
Russian or Ukrainian
* Provide post-program follow-on services and conduct program
evaluation
Requirements for the position:
* US citizen or possess a green card
* Demonstrated interest in the problems of domestic violence and a
cultural sensitivity to Russian and Ukrainian attitudes to domestic
violence issues
* Professional level written and spoken Russian language skills a
must. Ukrainian language ability a strong plus. Ability to provide
translation for American professional trainers presenting to Russian and
Ukrainian professionals
* Self-starter with high level of self-confidence and commitment to
quality work
* Ability to travel, adapt to new surrounding and communicate
effectively with a wide range of professionals
* Good sense of humor and not afraid of long hours and hard work
* Minimum one year commitment
This position will be based primarily in Russia and/or Ukraine with travel
within the NIS as needed. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits
include health and travel insurance.
