Publications Program Manager, ISAR-Washington, DC
ISAR: Initiative for Social Action and Renewal in Eurasia is seeking a
program manager for its Washington-DC based publication program. The
publications program manager will serve as managing editor of Give & Take,
ISAR's quarterly journal on civil society in Eurasia. Additional
responsibilities include producing ISAR in Focus, a quarterly newsletter
that provides brief updates on projects in each of ISAR's seven offices,
writing and coordinating the production of materials on ISAR's programs,
working with ISAR's membership program and doing outreach about the work
of ISAR and colleague organizations in the former Soviet Union.
Salary range: mid-upper 20s + benefits, commensurate with experience
Responsibilities Include:
1. Coordinating all facets of the development and production of ISAR's
quarterly journal, Give & Take. This includes planning each issue,
coordinating with colleagues, advisers and ISAR field offices, soliciting
articles, editing, supervising the production process and communicating
with the printer and mailing house.
2. Compiling and producing ISAR in Focus, ISAR's quarterly newsletter.
3. Developing materials on ISAR's programs, as needed.
4. Overseeing development of ISAR's membership program. The publications
program manager supervises the membership coordinator and assists with the
creation and implementation of outreach strategies and helps with the
production of promotional materials.
5. Supervising and providing support to assistant editor and membership
coordinator.
Required:
1. Strong writing and editing skills; experience supervising a
publication through all stages of development.
2. Knowledge of Macintosh computers; experience with layout and graphic
software.
3. BA in journalism, post-Soviet studies, international affairs or
related degree.
4. Basic knowledge of political, environmental and social issues in the
former Soviet Union.
5 Basic understanding of nongovernmental organizations and civil society
building.
6. Proven management ability and leadership skills.
7. Strong interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
1 Russian language skills.
2. Work and/or travel experience in former Soviet countries.
3. Experience in using the Internet for research; familiarity with
website design and HTML coding.
