I have today received the October 1998 issue of Current History: A
Journal of Contemporary History. The issue is devoted to Russia and
Eurasia.
Most of the articles in the issue focus on Russia:
* Russia's Summer of Discontent, by Michael McFaul
* A Flawed Democracy, by Peter Rutland
* The Cashless Society, by Marshall Goldman
* Russia's Crumbling Military, by Dale Herspring
* The Politics of Corruption, by John Kramer
* The Dismal State of Health Care in Russia, by David Powell
One article is devoted to Ukraine:
* Ukraine: The Muddle Way, by Dominique Arel
By the way, "Muddle" is not a mis-spelling of "Middle" - as will be
noted in the summary of the article: " Ukraine has pursued a three-
pronged policy of:
* avoiding economic reforms
* steering clear of any meaningful integration with Russia
* postponing a determination of the status of the Russian language and
Crimea."
The journal articles are not available for downloading at the Current
History website. Interested list members can inquire about subscription
rates by e-mail ([email protected]) I assume.
To get a sense of the publication, you can visit the website:
http://www.currenthistory.com/
Tables of Contents of past issues are available on the site. And a
quick review of the site suggests that one article in each of the past
issues can be downloaded.
