Subject: Query: How to pay employees of foreign NGOs?
Dear CivSoc listserv members:
My name is Eric Ian Shank; I am a private consultant/mediator
specializing in cross-cultural dispute resolution and organizational
development in Russia. I have a question for you, and would love to see
what kind of responses I can get:
If a foreign non-profit organization has part-time employees in Russia
that receive a small monthly allowance, what is the best way to pay them
in view of the current state of Russian banks? The best way I have come
up with to date is to give them an American ATM card, which lets them
withdraw US funds in rubles from an automatic teller. The catch: this
works fine in Moscow, where there are plenty of ATMs, but may not work
so well in Tambov! Any cost-efficient suggestions out there?
