ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
The Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) is a non-profit
organization whose mission is to promote environmental protection and
economic and social well-being through integrated strategies at the local
level. ISC projects emphasize participating actively in civic life,
developing stronger democratic institutions, and engaging diverse
interests in decision making. With our headquarters in Montpelier
Vermont, and offices in Moscow, Sofia, and Skopje, ISC has an
international staff of approximately 45 people.
ISC's core values include a commitment to making a meaningful

honesty and respect toward each other and our partners.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
ISC is seeking a mission-oriented individual to help support project
activities for ISC's programs. Projects are designed to demonstrate
different aspects of community action and planning, environmental
education, citizen participation in public policy and institutional
capacity-building, particularly for non-governmental organizations.
ISC's projects emphasize results-oriented training and technical
assistance to provide local demonstrations of ways to strengthen
communities for present and future generations. Working in partnership
with NGOs, local governments, and educational organizations, ISC
encourages other communities and institutions to learn from and replicate
project results. The program assistant will work to assist with the
implementation of activities currently in Central and eastern Europe and
Eurasia, as well as new locations that may be developed.
The program assistant will support the work of several other project
staff. Work activities will range from larger discrete tasks, such as
coordinating seminars or research activities, to routine project tasks,
such as monthly reporting, and preparing written updates and information
on project activities. Responsibilities will include: helping manage
day-to-day activities for the projects; maintaining communication with
funders, project partners, and consultants; developing and implementing
evaluation strategies for projects; maintaining database programs,
preparing training materials; organizing seminars in the U.S. for project
partners; and follow-up on leveraging project resources through in-kind
contributions or grants.
QUALIFICATIONS AND NEEDED ATTRIBUTES:
The qualifications for this position include: work experience, preferably
at the international level; and a related degree in the area such as
environment, international relations, public policy or education. The
program assistant must be well-organized, able to work independently with
minimal supervision, able to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines,
and flexible in responding to changing project needs. The program
assistant must have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication
skills; proficiency in computer applications (particularly e-mail)and
should have strong research and analytical capabilities. Relevant
language, and knowledge of or experience working for a US non-profit
organization, and with government and non-governmental organizations in
CEE or Eurasia is preferred.
TERMS
The position is full-time (40 hours/week) and is subject to grant
funding. The program assistant will be based in Montpelier, Vermont and
may be requested to travel up to six weeks per year. Please send salary
