Dear Civil Soc Subscribers,
My name is Linda Harris. I am an individual who will be traveling to =
Russia from September 13th through September 30th, 2001 on a Reverse =
Exchange Program grant from the Foundation for Russian American Economic =
Cooperation. This grant is funded through the U.S. State Department.=20
I am working to help Russian children and women at risk.  My two target =
cities are Apatity, Murmansk Region, Arctic Circle and Chelyabink, in =
the Urals Mountains. This trip I will be visiting the orphans and =
students of Apatity. =20
My original intention was to ship approximately 8000 lbs. of school =
books, school supplies, computers, clothes, shoes and toys before my =
trip, meet the shipment in Apatity and help to distribute the products =
as part of my visit.
Difficulties in shipping to Apatity are:
    Finding a freight forwarder who would ship a partial container to a =
port close to Apatity.=20
    Funding to pay for the shipment (approximately $6000.00 quoted =
price).
Therefore,  I am not going to be able to send the shipment until I =
return from Russia.  =20
I finally found a freight forwarder to ship a partial container. The =
closest port he could find is Helsinki Finland. He will then drive the =
shipment to Apatity which is about a 1200-mile drive. =20
The shipment will be met by Mikail Ivanov, who is in charge of the =
schools and orphanages for ten cities in the Murmansk Region.  He will =
personally oversee distribution to the orphanages and schools in the =
Apatity area.    =20
I have contacted several non-profit organizations to see if they will =
fund this shipment but I am also asking for your assistance.  If you can =
help, you may send checks to the Foundation for Russian American =
Economic Cooperation with Reverse Exchange Program - Linda Harris on the =

My commitment to helping Russian women and children at risk is an =
ongoing project. Next year I will be working on projects for both =
Apatity and Chelyabinsk. Their needs are great and your kindness is most =
