The HRIDC was established on December 10, 1996 as a not-for-profit NGO in Tbilisi, Georgia. It was registered by the Ministry of Justice of Georgia on December 26, 1996.
The basic goals of the society are:
- Monitoring human rights situation in Georgia
- Study of the concrete facts of human rights violations and distribution of information;
- Provision of assistance for citizens who have applied to the Society for the restoration of their rights;
- Fight against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and punishment;
- Fight against racial, religious, national and other discrimination and intolerance;
- Development of civic education and human rights education in the country;
- Monitoring the forced migration in Georgia;
- Monitoring minority rights in Georgia.
Volunteer opportunities:
From time to time, HRIDC has a need for English speaking volunteers who can work at its Tbilisi office.
Duties of the volunteer are typically as follows:
- Preparing and editing monthly newsletters
- Liaising with international organizations and agencies
- Provide inputs during human rights trainings and campaigns
Candidates should be: English speakers; have a minimum Bachelors in human rights, politics, international relations,
international law, or a related social science discipline; be able to work in windows packages, email and internet.Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV and names of two references to the chairman.
