Center for Gynecology and Obstetrics
This clinic deals with fertility, contraception -- including oral and IUD methods --, abortions, and artificial insemination. A hot line was started to counsel pregnant teenagers, but evolved into a more general counseling mechanism for women's personal concerns. In the past two years, 20 children were born with the help of the clinic's fertility programs, which comprise 50% of their work. Contraception programs have led to a reduction in abortions from 9,000 to 6,000. Although the Russian average abortion rate is 90 per 1,000 women, in this clinic it is only 84 per 1,000. The progress in teenage pregnancy is not as positive, as incidents of teen pregnancy continue to increase.

Over 400 Natives now have higher education degrees, primarily as doctors and teachers. However, the number of slots has fallen with funding levels, and all applicants must now pass competency exams. The Research Institute for Traditional Methods of Treatment is involved in traditional medicine programs with Native people
