Association of Pupils of Orphanages and Boarding Schools, Schastlivy Deen (Happy Day)
Registered in July, 1993, the Magadan association is affiliated with the Moscow Association of Pupils of Boarding Schools and Orphanages. The association is staffed by 14 volunteers and has a membership of 74 pupils and former pupils of orphanages. The association distributes money and food to 14 people each month. Future goals are to organize an agricultural farm for children and to build a boarding home for graduates of orphanages and boarding schools.

Caritas Magadan
Caritas Magadan registered in 1991, and has operated through the parish of the Catholic church. It organizes volunteers to provide food and financial assistance to elderly and needy people. It is likely that Caritas is also sponsoring income generating and agricultural activities at this point in time.

Yagodinskii Raion Public 'Foundation For the Protection of Childhood'
Registered in August, 1992, the Fund has spent 200,000 rubles to pay for treatment for children and orphans with disabilities. It has also established bank accounts for orphans. Future plans include opening a special 'charity store', purchasing wheelchairs, organizing a trip to the seashore for children, paying to transport children with disabilities to treatment facilities, and creating a religious school. In 1992, the Fund had 10 volunteers and a budget of 500,000 rubles.

Foundation of Mercy "Fete"
Registered in October, 1991, the Foundation has a staff of eight full time people, four part-time, 10 volunteers, and 14 members. The foundation raises funds from local organizations and banks and distributes food commodities. In 1992, it had a budget of 243,000 rubles. Future goals are to create a "humanitarian center."

Magadanskaia Oblast Handicapped Society
This society has not waited for outside assistance. It operates several income generating activities that employ individuals with disabilities, such as a sewing workshop and selling books through kiosks owned by the Society.

Teacher's Development Institute
This organization seeks to retrain unemployed professionals to teach valuable skills. For example, they train unemployed engineers to teach of computer sciences. They unite the forces of the family and community in raising and educating children.
