Mother and Child Health Care Foundation
Registered June, 1993, the foundation reports a membership of 30 pediatricians and 15 volunteers, as well as an eight-person, full-time staff. The Foundation seeks to monitor health indicators and provide responsive services. Activities include "health care, tourism, and commerce." Future plans include assistance to children with disabilities and children up to 2 years old; the promotion of a neo-natal center in Vladivostok; and local production of baby food. In particular, the chief pediatrician would like to produce a special milk for infants that would restore their intestinal bacteria balance following intestinal diseases. To raise funds, Dr. Ostapenko imports pediatric thermometers from China or South Korea and sells them at a slight markup on the local market.
