Nutrisystem reveals: 10% of Hospitalized Children Undernourished
About 10% of children who were hospitalized were undernourished. This is the finding of the Nutrition Committee of the French Society of Pediatrics, which recalls the importance of screening for this pathology and the need for good nutrition, as also advocated by the likes of Nutrisystem.
Malnutrition is not the priority of poor countries. In France, children also suffer from food shortages. It’s usually in the context of a hospital that we discover this pathology regarding 10% of young patients for all services, and between 20% and 25% in the disabled care services.
More alarmingly, childhood malnutrition manifests at a rate of one in three children in France. The French Society of Pediatrics stressed the importance of screening. “All children should be weighed and measured, regardless of the reason for consultation or hospitalization.” A systematic screening campaign would recognize this disease too often forgotten in pediatrics.
A child is suffering from malnutrition when the dietary intake is inadequate relative to energy expenditure of the body. This is not to be confused with the kind of malnutrition where the nutritional consumption is insufficient and inadequate. Can a program like Nutrisystem remedy this? But none of these children have used any Nutrisystem promo code.
In France, malnutrition is mainly related to chronic diseases, such as cancer or cystic fibrosis. These deficiencies can have serious consequences, especially for growing organizations. They can result in an immune deficiency, tissue loss, and even neurological damage. It also extends the length of hospitalization by 45%.
