Global Health and Environmental Bulletin A quarterly bulletin, published by The Center for Communications, Health and the Environment.

NIS Health Promotional Bulletin Quarterly publication available by e-mail covering health care projects in Central and Eastern Europe and the NIS.

NISMEDINFO Published by the American International Health Alliance (more or less monthly), NISMEDINFO consists of brief reviews of health-related Internet resources. Intended primarily for health care practitioners in Eastern Europe and the NIS. Available in English and Russian.

American International Health Alliance The AIHA Web site is rich with informational resources, including a directory of translated documents in the field of health care and a whole section devoted to resources for women's health.

Environment and Health Online Covers the environmental and health care sectors in central and eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

Médecins Sans Frontières Uzbekistan Médecins Sans Frontières is the world's largest nongovernmental medical emergency organization. MSF is implementing a health program in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health, focusing on the surveillance and control of tuberculosis, anemia, diarrheal diseases and acute respiratory infections and on epidemiological skills development in two of the most affected districts of Muynak and Kungrad.

 

American International Health Alliance manages a U.S. government-funded project which has established partnerships between 32 health care institutions in the U.S. and Eastern Europe and the NIS.

AMSA Heart to Heart Program American Medical Student Association chapters gather medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and texts to be distributed to medical schools and clinics in developing countries.

American-Ukrainian Medical Organization "NADIYA" attempts to strengthen family medicine in Ukraine through a variety of projects. Site has a number of links on NIS and CEE related public health, medical institutes, clinics and hospitals and medical organizations.

Center for Communications, Health and the Environment coordinates and supports programs that improve health and alleviate the adverse health effects of environmental pollution in the CEE and NIS.

Children of Chernobyl Fund, NW helps the child victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster through health stays in the United States and participation in health and education related programs in Belarus.

Doctors of the World is a "non-profit organization which relies on the support of volunteers and private donors to provide medical care to the world's most vulnerable people."

Doctors without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières USA provides assistance to victims of armed conflict or natural disasters and to residents of refugee camps.

Downside Up is a UK registered charity and a registered Russian charitable fund dedicated to "improving the quality of life for children with Down syndrome and their families in the Russian Federation."

EurasiaHealth Knowledge Network "provides information, tools, and training to enhance the knowledge of health professionals in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union." The website offers a multilingual library, links to Internet medical sites, information on grants and funding, regional contacts; it also hosts three e-mail lists: EurasiaHealth, EurasiaMedInfo, and EurasiaTeleConsult. It is a project of the American International Health Alliance (see above).

For the Children of the World sponsors Belarusian children for health respites in the U.S.

The Humanitarian Practice Network (formerly The Relief and Rehabilitation Network) was conceived in 1993 and launched in 1994 as a mechanism for professional information exchange in the expanding field of humanitarian aid.

Infoshare International provides Russian individuals and organizations with the tools that they need to fight HIV/AIDS and STDs.

Lithuanian Mercy Lift provides medicine, medical supplies, and equipment to hospitals throughout Lithuania.

Magee Womancare International is a partnership between the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a Moscow municipal hospital focusing on the care of women and infants.

Oregon-Ryazan Cerebral Palsy Clinic for Children is a group in Oregon which has provided support for Ryazan clinic for children with cerebral palsy.

Overseas Medical Aid Group is dedicated to the upgrading of the integrated medical and healthcare delivery systems of the republics of the former Soviet Union.

PATH (Program for Appropriate Technology in Health) emphasizes improving the quality of reproductive health services and preventing and reducing the impact of widespread communicable diseases.

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England International Program has programs around the world focusing on work in reproductive health, comprehensive family life/sexuality education, and public policy.

Project Hope is dedicated to health education, health policy research and medical humanitarian assistance in the US and around the world.

Russia Desk Amsterdam has programs in the fields of public health and professional training and education. In 1998 launched project on birthgiving in the Russian Federation.

Russian Medical Fund provides medical equipment and supplies and medical education and training.

Russian State Central Scientific Medical Library is a US-Russian cooperative venture to provide access to on-line medical databases.

Siberian American Children's Health Program is a joint project between Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford and the Pediatric Institute of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences of Eastern Siberian in Irkutsk.

Tolstoy Foundation, Inc. works with the Community Health Plan (CHP) to provide physician training for the NIS.

Ukrainian American Veterans Adopt a Hospital Program ships medical supplies and equipment donated from New Jersey and New York hospitals to medical schools and hospitals in Ukraine.

The U. Iowa - St. Petersburg Medical Academy Partnership Program promotes the practice of family medicine through curriculum development and teacher training. Site is available in Russian or English

World Vision International is a Christian organization which provides medical and emergency aid, and fosters self-reliance worldwide. Has projects in the NIS.
