TITLE: Junior Program Officer
DIVISION: Partnerships and Training Division (PTD)
LOCATION: Washington, DC
REPORTS TO: Senior Program Officer
ABOUT IREX: IREX is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the
advancement of knowledge. Central to its mission is the empowering of
individuals and institutions to participate meaningfully in civil society.
IREX administers programs between the United States and Eastern Europe, the
New Independent States (NIS), Asia, and the Near East.
SUMMARY OF POSITION: IREX seeks a Junior Program Officer for the Internet
Access and Training Program (IATP) based in the Washington, DC office. IATP
consists of a network of 66 Internet access and training facilities spread
out across 11 countries of the Newly Independent States (NIS). IATP
collaborates with a wide variety of local partners and international
organizations in providing program services and will soon be opening an
additional 54 Internet access facilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
� Overseeing the implementation of a multi-leveled grants competition
to encourage the development of local Internet content;
� Coordinating the collection of IATP program statistics and
developing new collection procedures when necessary;
� Coordinating specialized training activities with other non-profit
organizations and overseas staff;
� Overseeing the collection and dissemination of program publicity;
� Monitoring the development of IATP computer related training
modules;
� Collaborating with other IREX/IATP staff in adapting IREX's program
sustainability strategy to local circumstances across countries;
� Generating program reports;
� Maintaining collaborative work relationships with field offices and
field representatives;
QUALIFICATIONS: The Junior Program Associate must be well organized, able to
work independently, skilled at handling multiple tasks, and able to adhere
to deadlines.
Other qualifications:
� A Bachelor's degree;
� One year experience in the administration of an international
assistance program;
� Knowledge of Russian preferred;
� Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
� Excellent writing skills, both oral and written.
