Dear friends,
In response to the posting regarding the evening in memory of Victor
Popkov, a lister requested online sources on Chechnya. Below are some
links (all with info in English). While I feel it is important that
people abroad be familiar with what is going in Chechnya, I am
convinced that the only people who can truly end this war are the
Russian people, and thus encourage you to speak to your Russian
colleagues and friends if they are not aware of the genocide that is
occuring in their name (indeed many are not).
The Human Rights Network http://www.hro.org/war/english.htm
The human rights organization, Memorial, has some material in English
at http://www.memo.ru/hr/hotpoints/northkavkaz.htm Look carefully
and you will find English language material there...
Human Rights Watch http://www.hrw.org/campaigns/russia/chechnya/
Memorial has a separate site called Kavkazskii Uzel (Caucasian hub) in
English there is a "Report on The Ways to Peace in the North Caucasus:
Conclusions and Recommendations"
Editor Valery Tishkov
 http://kavkaz.memo.ru/analyticstext/analytics/id/406263.html
http://www.glasnostmedia.ru of the Glasnost
Foundation.
Memorial especially has a lot more information available for those who
read Russian.
all the best,
