Hello Everyone,
In commemoration of the UN International Day for Disabled Persons, I
wanted to pass along some of letters from some of our partners in
Central Asia:
------
Hello from the Almaty School for the Deaf. We would like to congratulate
everyone on International Disabled Persons Day. The Almaty School for
the deaf was founded in 1931 and soon we will celebrate our 70th
anniversary. But despite our old age we are still very modern. We have
received trainings on how to use the Internet and soon will begin
teaching deaf people in other cities of Kazakhstan these skills. We
look forward to helping other disabled people in the world make contact
with us. We have even developed our own webpage:
http://www.shuh.freenet.kz/
Almaty Regional School for the Deaf, Toraygyrova street, 1, Almaty,
Kazakhstan, Yelena Mastayeva. ([email protected]) People can send
this information to this e-mail.

Hello everybody. We are Schoola Internat Invalidov of
Petropavlovsk, North Kazakhstan. We want
to congratulate everyone on the U.N. International Day for Disabled
Persons observed Monday, December 3rd and
to remind everyone that disability reform issues are not just disability
issues, they are human rights
issues as well. This is a day set aside to draw attention to that
fact. Pleas tell someone about it.
We are new to the Internet, so I would like to tell you all a little
bit about us. We are a boarding school for physically challenged
children. Our main objective is the integration of our students into
society and the public school sector. We are working towards tearing
down all barriers so as to make education available for everyone. We
have been working at organizing a community-based rehabilitation program
since May of this year. We are very interested in hearing from other
organizations and individuals who are doing
similar work. We would like to work with you. We are new, so right now
the only contact information we have
for you is my e-mail address, which is: [email protected].
Telephone: 8-3152-46-66-78.
We would love to hear from you. Also keep in mind that U.N.
International Human Rights Day is December
7th. Take care all.

Hello from two related organizations in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the NGO
Skidiv (Sports Klub for Adult and Children Disabled Persons) and
Sokol-Skidiw (the Sport Shooting Club for the Disabled). We are starting
to become involved with the Internet. About 20 kids have already
received training on the Internet, and one from Skidiv, Timur Ashierev
(http://children.freenet.uz/deti/timur/index.html) is qualified as a
trainer. From Sokol, Alexsander Soldatkin, has already conducted several
courses for other disabled persons. We are planning on conducting a
contest for the best drawings on computers for the disabled. We planned
it to be for Uzbekistan but if we receive other entries we will consider
them.
We are working on updating our webpages. But for now, you can see an
early version at: http://www.sokol-skidiw.narod.ru/
