Job Opening: Partnership and Exchange Program Manager
ISAR: Initiative for Social Action and Renewal in
Eurasia is a nonprofit organization that promotes
citizen participation and the development of the
nongovernmental sector in the countries of the former
Soviet Union. ISAR's offices in the US and Eurasia
support citizen activists and grassroots
nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in their efforts
to create just and sustainable societies.
Partnership and Exchange Program
ISAR's Partnership and Exchange Program promotes
information and people-to-people exchanges among
grassroots citizen activists in Eurasia and the US.
The program builds on ISAR's nearly two decades of
experience in bringing together activists from
opposite sides of the world to create positive change
through mutual understanding and cooperative projects.
ISAR approaches its Partnership and Exchange work with
the belief that the personal and professional
connections resulting from these cross-cultural
programs lead to ongoing relationships between
grassroots counterparts, and ultimately result in the
creation of stronger networks among activists on an
international level.
Current Partnership and Exchange projects focus on a
range of environmental initiatives, including a major
effort to unite US and Eurasian nuclear safety
activists.
Job Responsibilities
The primary job responsibilities of the Partnership
and Exchange Program Manager involve organizing and
facilitating grassroots citizen exchange programs.
This work entails:
� Collaborating with ISAR's offices in Eurasia on
program development and implementation
� Developing and maintaining ties with the US
grassroots community
� Overseeing selection of US program participants and,
when necessary, matching them with NGO partners from
Eurasia
� Arranging all program-related logistics � including
travel in the US and Eurasia,
accommodations/homestays, cultural excursions, etc.
� Russian-to-English and English-to-Russian
interpreting
� Coordinating the translation of listserve
correspondences from Russian-speaking activists into
English
� Fundraising -- including proposal writing;
submitting final reports; maintaining relations with
present funders and develop new sources of funding
� Coordinating the evaluation of cooperative grant
proposals and monitoring the execution of cooperative
projects
� Working with ISAR's finance department on budget
issues
� Working with ISAR's director of programs on
long-range program development
� Coordinating with ISAR-DC's Publications Program and
International Program staff
Job Requirements:
- Work experience in the former Soviet Union
- Commitment to the idea and importance of
cross-cultural exchange of ideas and experience
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Strong Russian language skills, both oral and
written
- BA in Russian or Post-Soviet Studies, International
Affairs, or other relevant field
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with grassroots community in the
United States
- Experience organizing and facilitating exchanges for
citizen activists
- Fundraising experience
- Experience with issues related to nuclear
contamination and other environmental threats
- MA in a relevant field
Salary commensurate with experience. The position will
