Position Summary:
ISC is seeking an education/youth program director to lead and expand a core
ISC program area responsible for domestic and international education and
youth engagement projects. The education/youth program director will work
closely with senior ISC staff in the U.S. and international partners to
implement current programs and stimulate new program approaches that
strengthen community-based education, youth engagement in civic activities,
transformational education and education for sustainability. The emphasis is
on developing a new generation of citizens and leaders who accept
responsibility for improving social equity, environmental health and
economic viability in their communities.
This position requires a Masters' degree in a relevant education discipline
(e.g. teacher training, curriculum development, international education,
teaching, youth development, etc.) and 5-7 years of experience in program
design and implementation of participatory, community-based education or
youth programs; and 3-5 years of senior project or program management
experience, including contracts management. A minimum two years experience
working in transitional or developing countries is desirable. Proven ability
to collaborate with and advise senior staff on both vision and substance of
education trends and projects is needed, along with demonstrated
facilitation skills and experience in implementing projects with diverse
stakeholders. Excellent representation skills with donors and partners and
proven track record in successful proposal writing and fundraising are
needed.

Position Description:
ISC is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated and creative individual who has
the skills, contacts and experience to lead and expand ISC's successful
international education/youth program and further develop links to education
and youth engagement initiatives in the New England area. The ideal
candidate is inspired by ISC's mission to help communities around the world
address environmental, economic, and social challenges to build a better
future shaped and shared by all, and shares its organizational commitment to
creating opportunities for individuals to take responsibility for improving
the quality of life for themselves, their communities, and future
generations.
The education program director will help to stimulate new program
development approaches that enhance ISC's effectiveness, and deepen the
integration between environmental, economic, and social strategies through
lifelong learning opportunities. The education program director will be
responsible for building on ISC's successful work by refining and adapting
project models and exploring new applications, including the use of new
learning technologies (e.g. e-learning, video-conferencing, etc). ISC is
seeking a motivated and creative manager and practitioner for a senior level
position -- someone who can develop new strategies and approaches to
education consistent with the mission and values of the organization, and
provide assistance and guidance to ISC staff working on education and youth
projects. The education/youth program director may supervise up to 2 people
in Vermont and must be available to travel internationally up to two weeks
every two months.
Qualifications and Needed Attributes:
� A Masters or higher degree in relevant education discipline
preferred and 5-7 years experience in managing innovative and successful
education and/or youth engagement projects internationally and/or in the
United States.
� Ability to collaborate with and advise senior staff on both vision
and substance of education projects.
� Experience developing constructive partnerships among government,
citizen organizations, educational institutions and businesses, and working
with diplomacy and cultural sensitivity.
� Proven track record in successful proposal writing and fundraising,
particularly with USAID and/or private foundations.
� 3-5 years of senior project or program management experience,
including a strong familiarity with educational practices and approaches
related to sustainability/environmental education/civic education and
contracts management.
� Minimum two years of international project management or teaching
experience, preferably based in a transitional or developing country.
� Excellent written and oral communications skills, knowledge of
computer word-processing, spreadsheet programs and internet browser
software.
� Ability to travel up to three months per year.
