Program Directors for School Connectivity Programs in Central Asia
Project Harmony, an innovative, not-for-profit professional exchange and
training organization with 15 offices across the US, Armenia, Azerbaijan,
Georgia, Russia and Ukraine currently seeks two experienced, mature
professionals to fill Program Director positions in Uzbekistan and
Tajikistan. These positions are based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Dushanbe,
Tajikistan; require regular regional travel; and are conditional upon
funding being awarded. Fluency in Russian and/or Uzbek/Tajik is essential.
Project Harmony currently administers the Armenia School Connectivity
Program, the Azerbaijan School Connectivity Program, the Internet Access and
Training Program in Russia, and the Future Leaders Exchange Program Computer
Training Workshop.
Summary of School Connectivity Programs:
Project Harmony School Connectivity Programs establish Internet computer
centers in schools throughout our partner countries. Project Harmony School
Connectivity Programs enhance civic education through online collaborative
projects with partner schools in the US and elsewhere. Intensive, hands-on
train-the-trainers programs further develop the skills of educators to
leverage online technology to build civic education components into local
school curricula.
Through the School Connectivity Programs in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan,
Project Harmony will continue the tradition of excellence in providing the
educational leadership, technical equipment and support to ensure that use
of the Internet is integrated into the academic program of participating
schools in a way that strengthens democracy, supports civil society,
andpromotes cultural understanding throughout Central Asia.
Program Director Responsibilities:
* Overall management of program design, implementation, reporting and
evaluation
* Establish and maintain relationships with relevant governmental bodies,
working partners, and the media in-country
* Overall staff and financial management in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan
* Coordination with the Public Affairs Section of US Embassies in Tashkent
and Dushanbe
* Coordinate with other local and international non-governmental
organizations to integrate the School Connectivity Programs into
complementary technology, education, and development initiatives
* Develop educational content appropriate to national curriculum and context
* Communicate regularly with Project Harmony management and program funders
* Travel throughout the region for program implementation and events
* Promote the School Connectivity Programs and Project Harmony
* Research opportunities for new/continuing program development in Central
Asia
Qualifications Sought:
* MA/MS in Community Development or related field desired
* Fluency in written and spoken Uzbek, Tajik, and/or Russian
* Skills in mentoring, training, and motivating host country staff
* At least three years working in NIS on development projects
* Ability to work independently
* Demonstrated familiarity with Internet infrastructure and
telecommunications issues in the NIS
* Experience with educational applications of Internet communications
technology
* Thorough familiarity with the education system and education reform in
Central Asia
* Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively
* Flexibility and grace under the demands of changing tasks
* Excellent organizational skills
* Cultural sensitivity and willingness to adjust to demanding work schedule
* US citizen
