Central Asian NGO conference in Tashkent
                        June 1-2

On June 1-2, the Union in Defense of the Aral Sea and Amu Darya
and the Netherlands Foundation NOVIB will sponsor the Second
Central Asian NGO conference in Tashkent. This conference was
originally scheduled for late May and only recently rescheduled.
The goal of the organizers is to facilitate the development of a
region-wide NGO coalition. In contrast to the first conference,
held 10-12 November in Nukus with the goal of acquainting NGOs
with each other, the Tashkent conference anticipates more concrete
action. NOVIB hopes that each of the invited organizations will
dedicate itself to practical results. This dedication should be
demonstrated through both past work, as well as through the
presentation of future projects, in English, to be considered for
financial support from NOVIB. NOVIB plans to provide financial
support for projects addressing ecology, environmental education,
health, water management, women's issues, and technology. The
maximum size of a grant will be $3000-$4000.
