THREATS MADE TO THE LIFE OF EXPRESS CHRONICLE'S KAZAN
CORRESPONDENT ALEXANDER POSTNOV

Special report, Thursday 13 June 1997

Over the last few months Alexander Postnov, Express Chronicle's
correspondent in Kazan (Tatarstan), has been gathering material for an
article about the activities of the joint-stock aviation company

months as prisoners of the Taliban forces before they were able to
escape.

On Tuesday this week, 11 June, at 7.55 p.m. Postnov received a
threatening phone call at home, warning him that he would face major
unpleasantnesses if he published any article on the subject. Half an
hour later an unknown caller rang again and said: "This is going to be
the biggest mistake of your life. We won't warn you again."

The newspaper's chief editor, Alexander Podrabinek, has applied to the

effective measures to protect the life of Alexander Postnov.
