FUND AGAINST CENSORSHIP PROVIDES LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO JOURNALISTS AND
     NEWS MEDIA IN DISTRESS

The Fund Against Censorship is an initiative coordinated by the World
Press Freedom Committee (WPFC) in cooperation with eight other press
freedom organizations, including the Committee to Protect Journalists
(CPJ), the Inter American Press Association (IAPA), the International
Press Institute (IPI), and the World Association of Newspapers (FIEJ).
The purpose of the Fund Against Censorship, says WPFC, is to assist
journalists and news media facing legal action aimed at silencing or
intimidating them. The Fund provides legal assistance grants which go
primarily to help pay local lawyers where this is needed.
Investigatory or protest missions, as well as friend-of-the-court
briefs or appearances, also are within the Fund's purposes, says WPFC.
