Volga Agency for Environmental Information (VAE-Info)

VAE-Info is a news service based in Nizhnii Novgorod that
distributes a monthly collection of brief articles and news
stories concerning environmental issues in Russia. The
publication is in Russian and accessible via the World Wide Web.

Information in the VAE-Info Bulletin is directed at newspapers and
journals seeking information about ecological issues in Russia.
Material found in the bulletin may be used without payment;
however, the agency requests that they be given authorship or
source credit.

The most recent issue of the VAE-Info Bulletin (July, 1997)
contained about 45 short news stories, ranging from half a page to
a full page in length. Articles are divided into categories and
are listed by title in a table of contents at the beginning of the
publication. Categories listed in the July issue include: water
resources, alternative technology, radiation issues, eco-politics,
and public health. The articles contained in the bulletin should
be categorized as "semi-technical"--while they do contain some
scientific data, their emphasis is more on political or social
issues than pure science. Stories in the July bulletin ranged
from those of purely local interest ("Anthrax Outbreak in
Ul'yanovskoe Selo") to articles with an international or more
general focus ("Solar Powered Schools in Crete," "Are We
Suffocating from the World's Garbage?"), with an emphasis on
radical actions and groups.

CCSI would be happy to forward the July issue (formatted in Koi-8
fonts) to anyone who requests it.
