December 31 - is the deadline for submitting applications for an
environmental projects competition (up to $50,000), announced by the
Mezhcombank (Russia) and WWF for persons and organizations within the "Live
Planet" program. Russian priority regions are: South of the Far East and
Kamchatka, the Arctic, the Urals, Altay-Saiany, the Caucasus, Eastern and
Central Siberia (forest zone), Zabaikalye (steppe zone). Two categories of
projects will be considered: 1) conservation of rare and endangered species
of vertebrates; and 2) protected natural territories. The application
volume should not exceed 3 pages, the application form is arbitrary.

The Open Society Institute (OSI) is pleased to announce continuation of the
Environmental Fellowship program (EFP), pending budget approval. The EFP
is designed to provide training for professionals and students working to
improve environmental conditions in their home countries. Fellows and
participating universities will have the opportunity to create links
between US universities and US environmental organizations and their
counterparts in the region. The EFP is a two-year, graduate
degree program in environmental management/policy which will award 30
scholarships to students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine. Immediately following
completion of the second year, students will return home to implement what
they have learned in the US. Students participating on the EFP will be
placed in programs in the following areas at universities throughout the
US: Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Solid and
Hazardous Materials Management, Environmental Geotechnology, Environmental
Engineering and ScienceNatural Resource Management, Forestry Management,
Wildlife Management Fisheries Management Policy, Sustainable
systems-Environmental Studies-Environmental EducationPlease visit your
