Central and East European Programs

The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX), a private, non-profit organization promoting American collaboration with the academic, policy, and professional communities of the New Independent States, Central and Eastern Europe, and Mongolia, seeks an intern for Fall 1997 with an interest in international education and the social sciences.

POSITION: The Social Science Curriculum Development Project (SSCD) is seeking an intern. The paid internship will be for 10 -15 hours per week for November & December 1997 at the IREX offices in Washington, DC. The intern will:

* Design promotional materials * Maintain a database * Assist with web development

In addition, the intern will conduct research on libraries, publishers and the social sciences in Central Europe. Primarily the intern will assist SSCD program staff with the day to day operations of the program, however occasionally other programs in the Central and Eastern European Division at IREX will require assistance.

The SSCD program works with three of the leading social science departments in Hungary, Romania and Poland to strengthen research, teaching and practice in the following fields: public policy, public administration, sociology and political science.

QUALIFICATIONS: The intern should have familiarity with the social sciences and experience with word-processing and database management. Knowledge of the Central European region is an asset.
