                Tadjikistan is Open to Rotary

The Rotary Club recently celebrated 10 years of operation in the
former Soviet Union. To mark this anniversary, the Club held a
conference in St. Petersburg on October 2-5, with the slogan
"Peace & Unity." 500 delegates attended the conference, the
majority of them from Russia, North America and Europe. Central
Asia was represented by one delegate from Tadjikistan.

Rotary activities started only last year in Tadjikistan, when a
"Friends of Rotary" club was created with help from Lonnie Sibley,
a Rotary member from Boulder, Colorado, who agreed to be the
sponsor of the new organization. An official chapter of Rotary
International still hasn't been established; however, a Rotary
representative from Ankara, Turkey is scheduled to come to
Dushanbe in November and help the "Friends of Rotary" create an
official club in Tadjikistan.
