CCSI recently received a fax from a women's organization in Kyiv
which seeks contacts (and support) with organizations in Europe
and North America.
Women's Projects
Women's Projects is a non-profit organization established two
years ago to promote equal rights for women in the spheres of
economics, politics, and political education. Most of its members
are either civil servants or researchers who work in the Rada
(Ukraine's parliament), government ministries and research
centers.
Women's Projects has organized a number of seminars and training
workshops for women--e.g. "Election Campaign for Female
Candidates," "Women and Business," "Women in Politics" --in which
members of the Rada and the Minister for Family and Youth have
participated. It also publishes an electronic magazine about
gender problems, conducts research, and prepares drafts of bills
for the Rada.
Women's Projects is currently interested in working on three
projects:
* Consulting and lobbying members of the Rada on bills which
address women's issues.
* Consulting with women who are running for public office.
Parliamentary elections will be held in March 1998, and just last
month Women's Projects conducted a workshop for potential women
candidates on "Public-Relations and Image-making Strategies in an
Election Campaign."
* Conducting research in the field of gender problems and
publishing and distributing the findings among the Rada,
universities, etc. It is also interested in translating and
publishing research done on these issues in other countries.
