             TEACH ENGLISH IN VLADIMIR, RUSSIA

The Serendipity American English Program in Vladimir, Russia is in its
sixth year. The demand for classes from "native speakers" remains very
strong. This past year special conversation classes were successfully
added, and the outreach program was expanded through seminars on a
variety of topics. (Each teacher is expected to come prepared to give two
seminars on topics of special interest to them.) Several of the seminars,
which are particularly popular with the area's English teachers, have been
standing room only, and, as in the past, there is a waiting list for the
lower level classes in particular.

Benefits include:

--A comfortable stipend.

--Room and board with a Russian family.

--Three hours a week of individual Russian lessons taught by specially
trained native speakers.

--A very pleasant well equipped working environment in the "first American
home in Russia."

While very useful, a knowledge of Russian is not mandatory.

Teachers are responsible for their round trip airfare to Moscow, visa (one
year multi entry), and for maintaining health insurance at home. (Medical
expenses in Russia, not counting necessary medications, are covered.
Serendipity provides full visa support and pays the visa fee on the
Russian side. Teachers pay the visa fee on the American side.)

--Contract Period: August 1,1998-May 15, 1999 (with a probable extension
for summer school until June 30)

--Renewal of the contract for a second year is possible.

--APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 15, 1998

This is a very special opportunity to experience Russia first hand in a
uniquely supportive atmosphere and to accomplish something worthwhile in
the process. Previous teachers have commented very favorably on the
quality of the facilities and the available teaching materials; on the
tremendous support provided by their colleagues, including the dedicated
Russian staff; and, most important, on how much they have enjoyed their
students. Several of them have managed to parlay their experience into
good jobs in Moscow--or stateside--or they have gained admission to major
graduate programs. One of last year's teachers recently stated that her
two years in Vladimir were an "experience I never would have wanted to
miss...."

(A limited number of internships are also available to individuals whose
interests match up with those of Serendipity. For example, we are looking
for someone to complete work on a "tourist-oriented" history of the
Vladimir area. This can be completed in a 2 to 3 month period over the
summer.)
